Yes, I guess obvious similarities exist. Champions Online is being developed by the same crowd and is based on the old Pen and Paper IP of the same name. Currently players will only be able to play as 'heroes' apart from a 'play as your nemesis' feature which basically entails creating an arch-nemesis for your character who can then be controlled on a limited scale. Discussions on their boards seem to indicate that this mechanic will be something similar to the system adopted in LOTRO. Oh and the website has a mysterious countdown ticker. Speculation is that this is a countdown to an announcement of a Star Wars MMO.
Yea I've been following this for quite some time, I <3 CoH/CoV verrrrry much, so this should be fucking rad.
Cryptic is really making a name for itself..this is looking good. COH COV Champions Online......and now Star trek online.
CoH was a breath of fresh air for the mmorpg genre, I really hope Cryptic can give us another with Champions Online.
i like the fact that they are finally letting you customize the look of your powers. at least the color of them. hopefully they will go a little further and let you change the way it actually looks.
I am looking forward to seeing this game. CoH was amazing until they got Nerf Happy. Is it me or is Jack Emmert the biggest, most pompous blow hard in the gaming industry?
CoH was my first real game with XoO so it has a place in my heart. If this pans out I could see myself playing it over warhammer...maybe.
CoH was always fun for me.. every now and again I go back for a few months.. of course being a comic geek helps I think champions looks like it will be more fun than DC. *shrug*
No it's real Harley. They even got Jim Lee to do the char designs. Don't get me wrong, I love Jim Lee's art, but I'm not sure if that will help DC online. It just doesn't have the feel it should have from what I've seen. I think being able to interact with actual comic book icons such as supes, bats, GL, Flash, Sinestro, Joker and Luther is badass, but I'm just not sure how well that will work. I'm looking forward to champions because I like what cryptic has done & so far it has a better "feel" to it for me. Although I will admit some of the villains/heroes I've seen for it seem a little Golden Ageish, but I like that tons. Plus they have a Canadian super hero Justicar! Look at the maple leaf on that bad boy Time though will tell, comic book mmos are a very niche market.
CoH was the first MMO I played too. Back in the day with XoO. So, I'll probably try this game out too when it releases. Sounds like fun.
